The Ultimate Amsterdam Travel Guide

After postponing any and all travels abroad for nearly two years, it was finally time to board that plane and make up for lost time.  

Having never visited Amsterdam before, I was eager to plan a busy agenda to make the most of my short time there. Here are just a few recommendations as part of an Amsterdam travel guide for those wanting to explore the city and all it has to offer:  

Hire Bikes and cycle around Vondelpark

Vondelpark is Amsterdam’s most famous and largest public park and is a popular place for tourists and residents to enjoy activities such as cycling, hiking, and picnicking. Hiring a bike costs in the region of 10-15 euros and with bike hire stalls located all around the city, is an easy task. With scenic and peaceful views, cycling around Vondelpark with a coffee and pastry makes for a great way to explore the city and have some fun! 

Moco Museum

Amsterdam is famous for having a wide variety of art and history museums throughout the city. After seeing it all over my TikTok page I decided to pay a visit to the Moco Museum. A contemporary art museum exhibiting artists such as Banksy and Damien Hirst. This is a great way to spend your time in Amsterdam, as well as having an immersive art experience that is  perfect for getting some cool photos! 

Take a canal tour

As a vast amount of Amsterdam is surrounded by water, a canal tour is the best way to view and experience the city. Canal tours are available throughout the city, lasting around 75 minutes, the boat tour takes visitors around the most scenic route of Amsterdam whilst providing them with plenty of interesting facts and history along the way. 

Visit a Pannekokenhaus

Pannekokenhaus or pancake houses are highly popular around Amsterdam, with pancakes being one of the most recognised local cuisines of The Netherlands. With every pancake topping possible available in the pancake houses, this yummy local delicacy is one that you need to try when in Amsterdam! 

Amsterdam Ice Bar

If you’re looking for something to do on an evening, the Ice Bar is a popular tourist destination and a great place to grab an ice cold drink! The Ice Bar is a unique drinking experience, with everything within the bar from the walls to the glasses made from ice. With an extensive drinks menu and an overall great atmosphere, the Ice Bar is definitely up there with places to visit!
