Spring is here and it’s literally the perfect time to plan your summer holiday if you haven’t already. One of the most sort-after destinations is definitely Spain for many reasons:
One – it’s a beautiful country and there are so many great places to visit.
Two – the food is delicious!
Three – no matter what you do or where you head – you will have an amazing time!
If you have the opportunity to go to visit Spain, Barcelona is a must! It is the capital of Catalonia, a region in Northern Spain. It’s such a gorgeous city and in this article, you can find five stunning places you absolutely have to visit in Barcelona.
This long avenue will immediately catch your eyes. You can find similarities to the Champs-Elysées when it comes to the architecture here. There are a lot of luxury brands in this street so you can definitely spoil yourself. The best time to visit this avenue would be during the holiday season because of the seasonal decorations which are so beautiful. During the night-time, the facade of La Casa Batlló – which is a striking monument renovated by an architect – lights up, giving a magical spectacle that is rich in colour.
La Barceloneta is the seaside district of the city. The Mediterranean is bordered by a 4km long promenade which is very enjoyable to stroll around. You can even eat with a spectacular view of the sea. But my advice would be to go there on a weekday; there is a crazy crowd during the weekends! If you go on a weekday, it’s much quieter and more relaxing.
In the heart of La Rambla, the Boqueria Market is the oldest and most touristy place in Barcelona; it is huge and spectacular with its varied and colourful stalls of fresh and dried fruit, sweets, chocolates, nuts, seeds, meat and fish. The atmosphere is very warm and cosy – even if you have nothing to buy there, you must visit. The aisles are very crowded though so be careful! There are many pickpockets and thefts here which is the main downside but if you keep all your important items secured with you, you don’t really have to worry.
Plaça Reial or Royal Palace, aptly named, located in the old town of Barcelona, is absolutely divine. It can be accessed by a small sheltered passage which gives the impression of entering an enchanted world. The architecture is very different from what you typically see on the streets of Barcelona – it is the only arcaded place in the city. Plaça Reial is surrounded by bars and restaurants. With its palm trees and summery atmosphere, you will almost feel like you are in Mexico.
It is probably the one place you absolutely have to see if you are going to the capital – it is the most visited monument in Spain. Eternally under construction, since construction began in 1935, the Sagrada Família will impress anyone with its height and unique architecture.
