LFW 2019: Open to the public? Count us in.

It has been confirmed by the British Fashion Council (BFC) that London Fashion Week will be the first of the four global fashion weeks to open its doors to the general public. The ever-changing fashion landscape and growing public interest in the industry have led the BFC to construct a new format to increase engagement and reach new audiences for designer businesses. Our time has come and I don’t think anyone wants to miss it.

As one of the most well known weeks in fashion, LFW naturally attracts a global audience of press, buyers and industry professionals who come to London to explore and discover the newest and best creative talent. From emerging designers to heritage labels and internationally recognised fashion houses, the schedule of London Fashion Week will now facilitate two audiences.

What was conventionally known as a prestige event for those in the fashion industry will now encourage both a trade and public audience from September 2019. This year, London Fashion Week will further blur the lines of what was traditionally known as a global trade platform and encourage an immersive experience for those attending to see a selection of designers showcasing their latest works.

From creative installations, industry led talks from experts offering unparalleled insights to the fashion industry and a new Designer Exhibition, which focuses on the sustainability, community and ethics of the creative work designers explore. This launch will fully embrace #PositiveFashion, a initiative designed by the BFC which focuses on Sustainability, Equality and Diversity. This movement is to celebrate the fashion industry’s best practices and encourage future business to consider these developments and implications as a force for change.

In partnership with key retailers, cultural institutions and brands, LFW will extend the celebrations to engage involvement in communities throughout the capital. To capitalise on the success of this global event, whilst reaching new audiences, the British Fashion Council aim to inspire the younger generation to make London Fashion Week a cultural city-wide celebration.
