With the Summer season quickly approaching, it’s time to ditch those dark colours and winter blues and switch them up for some brighter, more summery shades.
We’ve probably all been in the same boat and have been embracing everyday life in black or grey joggers for well over a year. As lockdown lifts, there is now finally an excuse to dress up and go out, so why not do it in true summer style and up your game with some dazzling colours?
If you don’t know where to start your search for some new pieces, many fashion brands are celebrating the beginning of the season by releasing colourful new ranges. Take for example, Oh Polly’s new Summer Resort Collection. Within the drop, there are hints of baby blue, pastel green, sky blue and pink for the ultimate summer inspo. This collection radiates a stylish and sophisticated feel, displaying a selection of outfits which are perfect for a classy night out or day drinks with the girls. So, if you’re looking for inspiration and ways that you can bring a dash of colour into your outfits this summer, this is a good place to start!
Another tip to consider before you get back out to the shops (finally!) and start purchasing colourful garments is to look at your skin tone and think about what colours will complement it the most. For example, if you have a darker skin tone then a bright or even neon colour is a great option if you want to make your natural skin tone stand out. On the other hand, lighter pastel colours will match perfectly with a paler skin tone.
If you’re struggling to part ways with your dark wardrobe, then an easy place to start when adding colour is with accessories. Beginning with something as small as a colourful necklace will be the best way to introduce brighter tones to any outfit, without wearing anything too daring. Bags, belts, jewellery and even hats or hairbands can be a subtle way to inject colour into your look. If you are working with a black or neutral-toned outfit, then it is likely that any coloured accessory will complement the look. If you’re going with an all-black outfit, a pastel belt and some cute earrings would give you that summery feel…
A jacket is also a really simple way to increase the colour in your outfits, even in the summer. If you want to continue wearing dark or neutral colours but at the same time, find yourself looking for ways to add colour to your wardrobe, then a jacket is just what you need. Jackets give you the power to add any colour of your choice over the top of a basic outfit, and who doesn’t love layering. There is currently a variety of shops that are stocking bright coloured, summery jackets and blazers throughout the season, such as Zara and ASOS. Pastel tones are at the core of many trends this spring/summer, so throwing on a sage green jacket or a pastel blue blazer on over an outfit would create the perfect summertime look. You can also match your jacket to a handbag or other accessory to bring the look together as a whole.
So, now that you’ve got the basics down, get out there and build your own bright summer wardrobe…
