As the air gets colder and the leaves start falling, Mother Nature is readying herself for Winter – and you should be too!
We all know there is no better feeling than being snuggled up on the sofa with a hot drink and some scrumptious snacks, so why not create yourself the house of dreams this season with a few of these tips…
Consider Colour
The first thing that comes to mind when I think about Autumn is the crisp, bright orange leaves signalling the change in season – it is these colours that you should be incorporating into your home.
Deep orange tones will help bring out your Autumnal spirit and will also get you in the mood for Halloween! These shades are often well paired with copper or cool silver tones, which can easily be incorporated into any style of home.
If you are feeling a bit shy, then make the tiniest of changes to your décor by adding a pillow or blanket, or even just swapping your art or prints over. Natural, earthy tones could be added to give more depth to your space and can be less intimidating to style. These typically blend well with brassy, gold shades and deep blues.
The smallest of changes can make the biggest of difference when it comes to transitioning your home throughout the seasons.
Texture, Texture and more Texture!
Texture is the simplest way to update your home this Autumn, as this season pretty much just consists of cuddling up in blankets. You can easily throw a blanket over your sofa or armchair and immediately change the look and vibe of the room.
Adding a variety of clashing textures in your home can help break up the up space, whilst still complimenting each other perfectly. I’d recommend mixing and matching with tartan, faux fur, velvet, pom poms and metallic tones like gold, copper, and silver to flatter and brighten the colourway of your choice; This could be done with metallic ornaments, picture frames, vases, candelabras, candles, and hurricane candles.

Accommodate the Senses
People often overlook how a scent can affect your home, but it’s one of the first things that people pick up on. There are a variety of ways in which you can alter the smell of you home; You’ve typically got scented plug ins and air fresheners, but what really makes your house a home is the presence of candles (and reed diffusers!).
Some good scents to get you feeling warm and cosy this Autumn are mulled wine or cider, pumpkin spice, brown sugar, oak, fig, apple, ginger, and vanilla; Mixing both fruity and sweet scents is the perfect way to set the mood in any home.
There are so many great brands to choose from when it comes to ‘Autumnal scents’, but a few I would recommend are Yankee Candle, The White Company and Molton Brown.
Making these changes to your home will certainly help you transition into the new season comfortably and help create a calm, cosy and comforting haven for Autumn 2020.
