The Benefits of Meditation

Meditation is something that is becoming increasingly popular as we make our way through isolation. It is widely practised across the world and is being recognised for its benefits on your mental wellbeing. A lot more people are introducing this amazing practice into their everyday lives and swear by meditation when tackling their anxiety.

Over the yearswe have seen technologies develop and they continue to do soHas this influenced how we approach self-care? It’s not to say that this is a wrong way of thinking, but it’s not the most practical. As a human race, we have lost touch with our ancient practices, such as meditation, because we look past traditional practices and their benefitsMeditation has been scientifically proven and so its benefits need to be more recognised. I believe meditation should be practised by everyoneevery day, to promote wellbeing.

Meditation is known to have positive benefits on the mind, body and soul. We are advised to practise meditation daily, to encourage building healthy habitsMeditating for as little as 10 minutes a day can completely change your way of life. It’s about starting small and then building yourself up to an hour a day, to feel the full benefits.
There are around 6 different styles of meditation which are:

  • Mindfullness Meditation
  • Spiritual Meditation
  • Focused Meditation
  • Movement Meditation
  • Mantra Meditation
  • Transcendental Meditation

Mindfulness mediation is most popular across western societies.

What makes meditation so wonderful for so many?
Introducing meditation into your everyday life promotes wellbeing, reduces stress, improves your focus, strength and confidence, just to name a few. Meditation has a number of benefits such as:

  • Reducing stress
  • Controls anxiety
  • Calming
  • Improves brain function
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Improve sleep
  • Promotes emotional health
  • Enhances self-awareness
  • Lengthens attention span
  • Can generate kindness
  • May help addictions
  • Helps control pain

Meditation helps you connect with yourself on a higher vibrancy and a much deeper level. It helps you control and filter your thoughts and feelings; it can completely help your mood, especially when feeling low.

Starting with a few breathing techniques each day will help you on your way to introducing meditation into your daily routine. You can meditate to some relaxing healing music, you can meditate listening to the birds or you can meditate in complete silence. The beauty of meditation is exploring and finding your own personal way of meditating that works for you, your needs and goals.
The good thing about meditation is you can pretty much practice it anywhere at any point. There is beauty in remembering wherever you are, there will always be ground beneath you, to help bring yourself to the present and feel more grounded.
Some good places to meditate are:

  • Outside in nature
  • Your garden
  • In the bath
  • In bed
  • Your living room
  • Public transport

You can be at peace pretty much anywhere and the beauty of headphones is that peace is wherever you decide it to be.

Meditation is the art of silencing the mind. When the mind is silent, concentration is increased and we can experience that inner peace we’ve all been craving, amid the worldly turmoil. This is one of the main reasons people start to meditate, to promote inner peace; When you are at peace with yourself, you then have a better vibrancy for positivity. You will find that you don’t harbour negative thoughts as much when at peace. Meditation also promotes patience, something we could all do a little bit of.

Meditation is practised amongst all ages and is even being introduced into schools for children as mindfulness classes – what an amazing idea!! It is so important for children to understand the art of meditation and wellbeing, to prepare themselves for years to come. Students who have been taught meditation reported more positive emotions, greater self-acceptance and took better care of their healthAs well as experiencing reduced anxiety and less anti-social behaviour.

The benefits of meditation are endless and are scientifically proven to reduce anxiety and stress levels. Start off with just 10 minutes each day and you will soon notice the difference this amazing practice can make!
