Taking Care Of Your Body This Christmas

Here are some tips to help you make the most of your meals and avoid overthinking your food choices this season…

Love can also be in the form of taking care of our bodies and enjoying what we eat. 

We all have fond memories shared over delicious food. Laughter and conversation that we’ve had with loved ones over drinks. The smell or taste of a meal transporting you back to a happy place or time in life. But for some, the idea of being around food or consuming it, becomes a daunting fight with their own self.   

For those of you battling with eating disorders, you are valid. You are loved. You are cared about. And more importantly, you ARE allowed to enjoy that meal without the heavy feeling of guilt looming over you.  

Guilt Who?

I know, the feeling of guilt can be intense and can easily ruin a meal or your whole day. Start small, incorporate little snacks during your day that you love! Allow yourself to eat them, savor every bite – because who says you can’t? Take it easy and don’t overthink it. You can have whatever you like, an apple, a packet of crisps, a handful of raisins and nuts. It’s up to you- the only rule is: No guilt! 

Let's Bake!

Nothing can get you quite in the festive spirit other than a Sunday baking session. Find a recipe that you can share with family and friends and get baking- the perfect excuse! Enjoy the process and take part in the taste test. Memory making, coffee catchups, natters and nibbles are the best chill Christmas activities. 

If You Feel Like It...

Food platters look so appetising, don’t they? A table full of delightful dishes can sometimes feel quite daunting for those who struggle with their eating habits. If something tickles your fancy, you are entitled to try it! If 2 or 3 things tickle your fancy, try them all! Try to avoid overthinking, no one is judging you, no matter how much your head is telling you they areIt’s the joining in that counts and you are definitely more than welcome to relax and eat with others.  

Look After Yourself

The festive season can be challenging enough as it is, but can be even harder when we aren’t giving ourselves an adequate amount of love. Look out for your loved ones, if you feel they suffer with problems surrounding eating habits or food, be kind to them. Be kind to everyone! Encourage them with nice words, invite them to eat with you (but don’t be too pushy!), tell them to chill out and have some fun. Remind them that they are loved and have every right to give their body the food it craves!
