B loating is one of the first signs that your body isn’t digesting food properly. As digestion is key for the absorption of nutrients from the food we eat, digestive symptoms such as bloating, stomach pain after eating and heartburn all need to be taken seriously. The good news is there are many ways to tackle these symptoms naturally, getting right to the root cause.
L-Glutamine
To start healing the gut and to prevent recurring bloating symptoms, you’ll want to look into leaky gut and L-Glutamine. It’s the most common amino acid in your body and acts as a building block for producing proteins. By enabling your gut cells to regenerate faster, L-Glutamine helps seal the tight junctions in your gut resulting in the restoration of your gut lining. If you have a tendency towards digestive symptoms, start here.
Digestive Enzymes
I’ve been taking Wild Nutrition Digestive Enzyme Complex for a few months which have so far made the biggest impact on my recurring food baby tummy. Feeling like your stomach is blown up like a balloon is no fun at all. This combination includes enzymes that help to digest carbohydrates (amylase), proteins (protease), lactose (trilactase), fats (lipase) and plant fibre (cellulase). If you often suffer from bloating and haven’t tried digestive enzymes yet, get on it!
Probiotics
I think we all know by now how beneficial probiotics are, so here is your reminder. If you’ve ever taken a course of antibiotics you’ll most likely be lacking in healthy gut bacteria so you need to take steps to build it up from being a village to a city. If your gut issues are fairly severe and chronic, you’re best off consulting with a nutritionist or naturopath on which strain and strength to start off with to avoid any tummy upsets.
Herbal Tea
I’m a big fan of loose leaf blended teas that are concocted specifically for digestive support for sipping on at bedtime if I’ve overindulged in the day. Peppermint, fennel, liquorice, ginger, and dandelion are all great to aid digestion.
Epsom Salt Baths
Magnesium is the ultimate when it comes to stomach cramps or spasms. I stocked up on a huge 25kg that lives in my garage and gets decanted into a glass container next to my bath. Scatter a few cups worth into a hot bath, let your muscles relax and notice how much less tension you feel the next day.
Carbo Veg
Homeopathic remedies are my first port of call whenever my body is slightly off balance. Carbo Veg is prepared from charcoal and has the same effects of cleansing and calming down the digestive system. Simply dissolve a pillule under your tongue as and when needed.
