With Halloween creeping round the corner, staying in and watching horror films might not seem as appealing as it used to. Whether you don’t mind getting down and dirty in the pumpkin fields or prefer to have your socks knocked off, there’s something for everyone this spooky season.
Swap out the store bought pumpkins for a day out at your local pumpkin patch. Farms up and down the country host pumpkin patches where you get the opportunity to choose your own pumpkin right from the patch. Just make sure you dig out a pair of wellies. Some farms have these alongside other attractions such as tractor rides, face painting and even a Halloween themed maize maze at Undley Farms in Suffolk.
Staycations have become very popular in recent times so if you’re based close to York, October is the ideal time to venture out into the spooky and historic city. With ghost trails all year round and the infamous York Dungeons, a day out – or longer – is a wonderful way of celebrating this spooky season. Since this would be a getaway, you can move at your own pace whether you choose to visit one place or spend all day in a hotel spa.
The dungeons are not exclusive to York, with attractions spread out in many different cities. No visit is the same as the last, with actors guiding you through some gruesome local history. Depending on which one you choose, you can also upgrade your ticket to include a drink from the Tavern – just make sure you don’t spill it when the lights go out.
The Forbidden Corner is a wacky maze-like attraction, where guests have to avoid a personified castle’s uvula before even entering the park itself. Found in North Yorkshire, this attraction is open every day between 12th April and 31st October and then only on Sundays until Christmas. It’s the kind of place you can get lost for hours without even realising it, as you hunt down each wacky individual attraction.
Rumour has it, there’s some hotels with guests who never leave. These haunted hotels are definitely one for the superstitious. These hotels don’t advertise themselves directly as haunted though, so don’t blame us if you don’t catch sight of a ghost.
