Where to Visit on the Norfolk Coast This Winter

Call me biased but there is nowhere else I’d rather be than the Norfolk Coast when winter rolls back around. Find me a roaring fire in a cosy pub that serves chips with garlic mayo after a brisk dog walk on shingle beach and I’m one happy girl.

Talking of chips, my first recommendation goes out to my current hometown of Cromer for nailing it when it comes to providing the full British seaside experience. We’ve got arcades, sweet shops, cafes for a fry up or a slice of cake and a pier that has a theatre on the end.

Seal spotting at Blakeney always marks the end of autumn and the start of winter for me. At this time of year the pups have just been born and line the shores as cute mounds of white fluff. Should you not fancy the boat trip from Blakeney, you can spot them at Horsey Gap too.

If you’re planning a trip to Norfolk around Christmas time, Holkham Hall offers a variety of festive themed events, from wreath workshops to candlelit tours. Make a day of it and take a walk on Holkham Beach and stop off at The Victoria for an indulgent meal too.

For the best dog walks, head to the beach at Trimingham, Wells-next-the-sea, Brancaster or Cley. All of which keep me going back year after year. Though my all time favourite lands with Holkham Beach, said to be popular with the royals and a location of many film scenes too.

Should you be looking to stay in Norfolk, check out Congham Hall Hotel and Spa for a luxurious weekend away, The Fritton Arms for a couple of nights in a cosy pub setting or Sloe Gin Cottage in Heacham for a longer break.
