TYRO Studios: West Yorkshire’s Creative Space to Learn Without Judgement

Nestled in the heart of Shipley is TYRO Studios, a unique space where owners Yvonne and Izzy host a range of creative workshops and lifestyle events. The word ‘tyro’ is the Latin word meaning ‘a beginner or novice’ and TYRO Studios have created this space for all to learn without judgement or pressure to be anything but a beginner.

The tickets are all fully inclusive, you do not need to buy anything for the workshop as they provide all your materials and refreshments (including alcoholic and non-alcoholic options), all they ask you to provide is enthusiasm to learn. If you’re looking for a fun evening with your friends or an opportunity to meet new, like-minded people, then this is it!

I was lucky enough to be invited to TYRO Studios to attend one of their watercolour painting workshops, and can honestly say I couldn’t recommend it enough! As someone who hadn’t painted since high school, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but Yvonne made us feel at ease straight away. As did Hannah, the incredibly talented painter who taught the class. The workshop lasted 2 hours, with the first hour spent learning the basics of watercolour painting as well as the different techniques, follow by an hour for us to create our final piece. Hannah was extremely knowledgeable in watercolour and allowed plenty of time in-between demonstrations for us to develop our techniques, offering further guidance and support along the way. At the end of the class, we were encouraged not to rush off, finish our drinks and continue chatting which was lovely and added to the calming atmosphere. It was also great that we got to take home our finished work.

The venue is stunning, very light, spacious and calming – exactly what you would hope for a wholesome activity. As the classes are small (6-10 people), not only do you get direct assistance for the tutors, it also offers to opportunity to chat to new people.

Attending the workshop was truly a wonderful experience that I definitely plan on doing again. If watercolour is not your thing, there are plenty of other classes on offer, from £35+. Including flower arranging, macramé, wine tasting, pottery and much more!  They also offer several all-inclusive packages for bridal showers, stag and hen-do’s – including your choice of workshop, unlimited refreshments and an optional photographer to capture the celebrations.

TYRO Studios is a great way to try something new, discover a new hobby and meet new people. To discover more about their classes or to book, visit tyrostudios.com.
