Discreetly tucked away on the corner of Brompton Road and Egerton Gardens, skincare specialist Lisa Franklin’s new flagship Skin Sanctuary in The City is now open and I was lucky enough to be invited down to try the Repair, Recover, Renew Facial, a bespoke signature treatment focusing on skin health that would ‘give me the glow’. Of course I wanted to find out what it was all about, along with how Lisa found opening a new salon during lockdown and how beauty treatments have changed since the beginning of the year.
Award winning, renowned facialist Lisa Franklin opened her first sanctuary 5 years ago and it has been expanding ever since. 2020 was the year she was set to move ‘up the road’ from Sloane Street to the heart of Knightsbridge, however at the time, she hadn’t planned to be doing this with the world in lockdown.
Although 2020 hasn’t been ideal for anybody, there have been some positives to come out of it, such as a few extra weeks for Lisa to launch her brand-new Clinic Privé location in Knightsbridge. Now when I say clinic, I use that term lightly, a private clinic meaning an appointment must be pre-booked, albeit as soon as you step foot in the door it’s a sanctuary, a serene and private haven with beautiful decor, how I imagine my dream bedroom to look. It’s curated with beautiful interiors and rose quartz details which run not only throughout the sanctuary but also through Lisa’s skincare line.
Voted one of London’s top facials, the Lisa Franklin Experience involves kind and effective skincare solutions. The service is a one–to–one personalised approach, bespoke to the concerns of each client. I was offered a glass of water whilst completing a consultation about my lifestyle and skincare routine which also included questions about what music would I like to listen to during the treatment and what drink would I like to have prepared for me after the treatment which I thought was a lovely touch. I opted for the rose infused herbal tea.
Into the treatment room and my facial began with a double cleanse using the Lisa Franklin anti-pollution cleanser, a concentrated bioactive oil-based cleanser, rich in antioxidants which remove make up and pollutants as well as refining and purifying pores. Followed by this was a steam treatment, I love a facial steam and have thoroughly missed the steam room at my gym, so this was most welcomed. Steam opens pores and helps remove any buildup of dirt for a deeper cleanse, though what was different about this experience is whilst the steam was on, my skin was exfoliated, and a galvanic treatment was used. The treatment had a totally relaxing feel. Next up was what is known as the ‘Ultimate Glow’ – a brightening, resurfacing solution containing lactic and salicylic acid helping to improve signs of ageing and hyperpigmentation. I also received oxygen therapy before an amazing rose quartz lymphatic massage, something that is included in every treatment.
As every appointment is bespoke to the client, each facial can include a number of different non-invasive treatments, so during the consultation the therapist will talk you through the options of elements such as endospheres therapy, radio frequency, high frequency, LED therapy, micro-needling (SkinPen Precision), non-surgical face lifts, back facials, skin peels and retexturing treatments as well as the rose quartz lymphatic drainage and oxygen therapy.
With beauty out of action for a couple of months, Lisa’s clients couldn’t wait to return and see her beautiful new sanctuary for the first time. The main difference Lisa has noticed is more so the timing of when her clients are booking in, whereas before after work hours were the busiest, nowadays clients are booking in throughout the day.
This just highlights how much of a difference work from home and flexible hours have made. Lisa is lucky as she has a clientele in the local area, but a lot of beauty salons and spas in London have noticed the impact of less people commuting into London for work therefore not being in the area to pop in for their appointment, the last thing anybody wants to do after a beautiful facial is get on a train.
The team at Lisa Franklin Clinic Privé were all wearing masks and visors and of course it is a brand new clean beautiful sanctuary and downtime is provided for the therapists after each treatment to conduct a thorough cleanse of the room. Clients appointment times are staggered meaning there isn’t a rush of guests arriving at the same time and there are 2 beautiful relaxation areas to wind down in after the treatment, so no-one is rushed out of the door.
All treatments at Lisa Franklin Clinic Prive are tailored very much towards the effects of city living and pollution, but the main concern a lot of clients are noticing now is breakouts from wearing masks which could also be related to stress, a change in diet and not being able to book in for regular facials during lockdown. All of these concerns however can be treated with one of Lisa’s bespoke treatments and a skincare regime can be tailored. Results aren’t just immediate improvements in skin health though, Lisa specialises in longer-term preventative care for all skin types.
Lisa is proud to have been awarded the Positive Luxury Butterfly Mark, which reflects the brand’s sustainability efforts and belief in the Beauty of Kindness.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Lisa Franklin’s new flagship Skin Sanctuary in The City, my skin looks and feels amazing after my treatment and I cannot wait to book back in. I highly recommend to anybody who is looking to get back into having facial treatments or maybe looking to try a facial for the first time, who wants results with a luxury feel.
