It’s no secret that sustainability is something that gets everyone feeling like they’re doing a little something for the environment. However, greenwashing is everywhere and sometimes, when we think we are supporting sustainable businesses and brands, it just isn’t so. So don’t worry, I’ve listed my top sustainable knit wear brands that not only do good for the globe but look chic on the streets too...
Navygrey:
A jumper brand focused on neutral colours and essential items. With knits starting from £145, the wool is handpicked and superfine, Woolmark certified and mulesing-free. The knits are finished by hand and the brand waste very little yarn, using any leftovers for future jumpers. Even the packaging is organic and uses FSC certified recycled paper – we love!
babaa:
A brand that’s core value is sustainability, with only natural resources and local materials used to create their pieces. The brand uses a single Spanish factory and the latest technology to ensure that toxic byproducts are a thing of the past and only the best is produced. With knits starting from around £90, you really are investing in quality.
The Knotty Ones:
From craftswomen in Lithuania, not factory workers. The brand employ women in job scarce villages, paying them fair wages and allowing them to work from home in a safe environment. The knits start from £285 and are sustainable and contemporary, whilst empowering the women who make them. They state that the quality will last multiple seasons, as they contain natural fabrics and reduce their carbon footprint.
&Daughter:
Lastly, I bring you &Daughter, a modern brand with a sustainable craft and high-quality pieces. With knits starting from £285, the entire brand is focused on sustainability and all pieces are made for longevity, with the yarn being sourced locally and made at home in the UK and Ireland. The knits are hand finished and each one is focused on one at a time.
