I feel a little sceptical about setting goals or making plans for 2022 after the year we just had. Absolutely nothing I planned went ahead and I’m not sure I’m ready to experience that all over again.
With that being said, I’m not putting my life on hold for the uncertainty. Life is always uncertain, we’re just fully aware of that now. It’s important to always prepare yourself for the year to get an idea of what you want to achieve and what you want to do.
First and foremost, in 2022 we will all make a promise here together to not get disheartened if things don’t go to plan. OK? In 2021 I learnt that your own plans aren’t always what’s best for you and better things will show up and work out better than you could’ve ever expected. Just be easy on yourself and give yourself some space for the unknown.
If you want to have a successful year, not just in your career but your life as a whole, the best way to set yourself up for the year ahead is to make self-development a regular thing on your ‘to-do-list’. To name a few you can improve your confidence, make procrastinating a thing of the past. Get into the habit of waking up earlier, read more or even build your resilience.
Be clear about what you want this year, what areas of your life are you wanting to develop and thrive? Are you making any big changes? Get a really good grasp of what you would like and set it out accordingly, create a road map of sticky notes so it’s all there in front of you.
My ultimate guide for setting yourself up for 2022 looks like accountability, discipline and self-motivation. Breaking down everything on a weekly and monthly basis. You are not always in control of things that show up but you’re in control of your responses and actions after that. By failing to prepare you are preparing to fail. Organisation is key, when you organise yourself and your life you will gain optimal results all round.
Start the year thinking ahead of what’s coming up. This can be from special events, upcoming holidays, work/business targets or maybe a moving in date.
What can you do now that will get you 10 steps ahead in the future? I highly recommend having a few days to sit and do all of the life administration that will take the pressure of you throughout the year or at least in the first few months. This will be the most subtle yet effective impact on preparing yourself for the year ahead.
As a naturally organised person I can say it’s worth it. Get yourself ready for the week ahead; get your outfits lined up and ironed, prepare your lunch and dinners or at least plan them out. Utilise your time and effort in the right direction.
Set yourself time each week or month to make time for yourself, your friends and your family. We get lost in the middle of madness and don’t always make time for the 3 most important things in our lives. Scheduling in this time at the start of each month will firstly give you something to look forward to and secondly, give you an idea of when you’ll catch a break.
THAT thing you want to do or start? Just get on with it. Just do it, get the ball rolling and let everything fall into place – feel the fear and do it anyway. The more you think about doing it you’re missing out on opportunities and experiences. If you do one small thing towards a goal each day or every week, you’re going to be at least half-way there by the end of the year.
Last but not least, love yourself a little extra. You don’t need New Year resolutions you just need to be honest with yourself. Do more of what you love and cut off the things that aren’t making you feel good.
To summarise, setting yourself up for 2022 looks like self-reflection, self-development & some self-love. That doesn’t seem so bad, does it?
