Everyone knows that in December, Christmas jumpers become the new normal. Whether you’re wearing it to raise money for Save the Children with Christmas Jumper Day or simply because you’re a fan of the festive season, it can be hard to know how to accessorise them. After all, bold, vibrant colours are great, but bright red noses on brown reindeer, or violently orange carrot noses on snowmen, aren’t made for the catwalk.
But don’t worry, while the best accessory for any outfit is a smile, we’re here to tell you that not all hope is lost on the fashion front. Use our simple tricks to turn your simple Christmas jumper into a statement piece that will make you the centre of attention at any office party.
Fairy Light Fever
If you’re looking for something quirky and fun, you can adorn yourself with some cute lights meant for the tree. For the fellas out there, you can even get hold of specific beard lights, designed to sit and glisten alluringly around your face. If you are going to string some fairy lights through your jumper or your hair, though, just be careful of any fire risks; LEDs are by far the safer choice. Also, make sure you get battery operated lights, unless you want to spend your day sat very close to a plug socket.
Cold Shouldered Style
There’s a classic within the jumper fashion world that will never do you wrong. If your jumper’s a little on the larger side, or you’ve bought an oversized style, shift it off your shoulder. Pick the one you prefer (doesn’t everyone has a fave shoulder? I know I do…) and show it off to everyone. You’ll be able to wear a glam strappy top underneath to add some glitz and chic if you want to really sparkle, too.
Wet-look Wonder
Leather-look jeans or pleather skirts are all the rage these days, and being ethically conscious too, there’s nothing wrong with styling these out alongside your Christmas clobber. Popping on a pair of wet-look skinnies will instantly stylise even the most garish sweaters, and they’ll make you look slimmer too – bonus. Now, all you need is a cute pair of heeled boots or suede slip-ons to finish the look.
Getting skirty
Is there anything that can’t be improved by adding a little black skirt? The answer is, of course, no. A Christmas jumper is no exception. This trick works whether you’ve got a slimline, fitted sweater or an oversized one – tuck the hem into your skirt if it’s a short skirt, or let it flow down with the line of a longer one. Add some chunky knitted tights, long boots and an adorable woolly hat, and you’ve got winter chic checked.
Arty-farty fantasies
This one might not be the most stylish of options, but if you want a personal touch to your Christmas attire, get inventive and learn how to craft one yourself. You can make it as gorgeous as you like (or as cheesy!) and you’ll feel super empowered knowing you made it with your own two hands. Knitting, crocheting or even sewing will get you as far as you need to, and Pinterest has plenty of inspiration for all your needs and patterns.
