We know how tempting it can be to splurge our Christmas money in the January sales.
I am one of those people who would much rather get a bargain than have something to physically open on Christmas morning. But we know it’s so easy to fall into the trap and I’ve been there. Here are some of my tips and tricks for spending your money in the right places this January.
Do you really need it?
Write a list of the things you would like to look for, so that you’re not aimlessly wandering around. If you do this before the sales start, even better! It’s always handy to have the items normal retail price in mind. This will help so much when you are shopping online or in-store, as brands can often make sales look bigger than they are. You will be able to see how much you are really saving and if it’s worth the purchase after considering it. There’s always pressure to buy when things that are cheaper, but if you’re not 100% sure on that item it most likely will be a waste of money.
Impulse buying can be your worst enemy!
Think, do I really need this? If the answer is no or not too sure, your best of putting it back. What I tend to do is think, “would I be gutted if that item was to sell out or go up in price?” That is often a good indication for me to think about how much I really care for this item. Is it something I know I will use? Especially with clothes!
Check the returns policy
Is there pressure to make a decision there and then? I’m guilty of this. I have brought items and when home after a few days, I’ve thought why? I really did not need the addition, so have been able to return it. Unused of course. Save yourself time and just don’t buy something for the sake of it in the first place. Returning items is all a waste of time, so try not to get into that habit. But, it’s a plan B. Be careful though because some shops do not accept refunds on sale items, exchange only…
50% off!
Is it really though? Is it worth the money? Don’t always be fooled by the price tag. Online shop where you can, this way you can easily compare prices, use discount codes and cashback sites to save more money. However, online shops are culprits of inflating product prices, before discounting them to the origional price. This makes that bag you’ve been eyeing up seem cheaper, because it’s not only £35 (when it was only £36 before the 50% off sale!)…
Always search for discount codes online, even if it means free delivery. What do you have to lose? it’s a saving. Top cashback is my favourite cashback site! It’s clear and easy to use and I would recommend.
Think ahead – be that organised gal!
Forward thinking could be a game changer. Thinking about where that money could alternatively go: holidays, birthdays, occasions…. Or, buy FOR these events, January is the perfect time to get gifts and holiday bits, especially in the sales! I tend to top up on makeup in the January sales, you can often get freebies and money off when you buy a couple of items, who doesn’t love a freebie? Alternatively, you obviously don’t have to buy anything! Save that money for more holidays and events! If you don’t need it, don’t buy it. There is no pressure to spend money.
I hope these tips & tricks help you in January, whether you get your shopping or savings on!
