The celery juice craze started last year and certainly seems to be here to stay – I gave the two week challenge a go and on day 14 I have to admit, I have no plans to stop.
The Medical Medium, who you can find full of information and tips on Instagram, says celery juice is so powerful it strengthens your immune system and fights off viruses. I wasn’t really convinced, but with all this positivity surrounding something so simple, I had to give it a go.
I’m not the biggest fan of the taste and so was REALLY hoping I wouldn’t see a difference – but I have seen such huge changes in my skin and the way I feel. So much so, that I’m going to continue drinking it every day.
Advising you to take it in the morning before consuming anything else – you simply chop the celery and juice / blend it. If you only have a blender (like me) be sure to strain it so it’s smooth.
I tend to chop it a day or two in advance, and blend / strain it the night before so it can chill – this makes the taste a little more bearable in the morning.
Drinking it every morning for two weeks, I feel my skin is less grey and has a little more of a glow to it. I don’t feel as tired and the bags around my eyes seem to have become smaller, which is a huge thing for me.
The Medical Medium advises that celery juice flushes out bad toxins and cleans up ‘the mess’ inside your body. After a few wild weekends over Christmas and a fairly damp January, this was one of the main reasons for giving it a try and I do feel it has helped my body recover.
I also usually suffer with serious bloating issues and tummy pains – but since drinking this, my gut has felt 100% better and I’ve had no problems with it. I honestly think that it has cleaned me out and I feel so much fresher for it.
So when its benefits are this good, what are the downsides?
The only thing for me is you really do have to stock up on celery – but at 50p a batch at Aldi (70p if I pop into Booths and buy it near work), it’s not too pricey. The usual recommendation is one full pack should be blended for each day; I tend to stretch mine over two and sometimes add a little water (this also helps with blending).
It’s also tricky to remember to do it the night before, and if you don’t, the thought of getting out of bed in the morning to chop, blend and civ some celery, instead of having a nice warm cup of tea, is pretty excruciating. But I am a little dramatic.
