This summer, it’s time to take yourself out on a much-needed solo date.
Having a social life is incredibly important, and yet through our hectic lives sometimes we just need to take time out. Going out alone doesn’t mean that you are lonely. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Planning some self-care time for yourself means that you are confident in yourself, and it can also help to build your self-esteem. It gives you the chance to recharge so that you can be at your best when your social calendar starts to get busy again.
While there are so many things that you can do at home, we thought it would be great to share some of the best activities that will get you out and about this summer. Netflix is cool and all, but as more and more places reopen and restrictions ease, now really is the best time to get out there, independent lady.
Ok, so this one can be daunting but once you’ve done it once, you’ll definitely want to do it again. For starters going it alone means that you won’t have to argue about what film to see, or even worse, settle on a film that’ll put you to sleep within 5 minutes. Likewise, you don’t have to worry about your film choices getting judged. If you want to go and see that cheesy rom-com that your partner will hate, then this is your perfect opportunity to do so. It could be that you love horror films but none of your friends do, again, the chance to see something that you really want. While taking someone along to the cinema is fun, going solo can be just as much fun, if not more. It’s a chance to switch off your phone and your thoughts for a few hours and be completely transported to another world. Plus, you won’t have to share your popcorn with anyone else! Win-win in our eyes.
Plan a trip and get out of your hometown for the day. This gives you the chance to explore a new (or favourite) place and escape your day-to-day life for a bit. Whether it’s wandering around, being a tourist in a city you’ve never been to or breathing in the sea air, jump on the train or in the car and make the most of a day to yourself. Taking a day out can do wonders for your mental health, it’ll refresh you and help you make new memories. If you post them on Instagram or not is up to you, but you’re bound to have fun either way.
Pack a lunch full of your favourite foods, grab a book and head down to the park. You can listen to music, read or just relax in the sunshine. If you’re into meditation and mindfulness, why not try to incorporate them into your picnic? A few hours away from your usual daily routine will inspire you when you get back to it. We live in such a connected world and disconnecting from it, albeit for a short while has many benefits. Picnics for that reason are a fantastic self-care activity because you can completely unplug and unwind without the pressures of daily life.
Another way that I really like to relax and practice a bit of self-care is to curl up with a good book. Whenever I’m reading and I really get into a book anything could be happening and I wouldn’t even notice. I find reading a way to escape and go into a new world and be apart of the characters lives. A book I have been reading recently is The Hunger Games Trilogy, I have watched all the movies before but never sat and read the books and now that I have I don’t know how I didn’t do this from the start, they are so good!
We’ll keep you up to date on hot topics and industry news. You’ll be kept up to date on a need to know basis on all things culture, you won’t want to leave…
