Everyone knows that when the dark nights start pulling in, the clouds roll over and the weather takes a turn for the worse, things can feel pretty bleak to say the least. All the Summer activities start to feel like a lifetime ago when the park is a muddy pit and your barbecue is swimming in puddles, which means plenty of us settle into hibernation mode. Netflix and chill becomes more popular, junk food and comfort eating runs rife and we all remember that pyjamas are, undoubtedly, the best type of clothes to wear.
But this Winter, don’t let the cold beat you down into your usual slump. We’ve come up with our favourite things about the season, to remind you that there’s loads to love about it.
#1: Mull All The Things
One of the best things about Winter in Britain is the desire to mull absolutely everything. Mulled wine, mulled cider, even mulled apple juice; you won’t go short of the taste of cinnamon and cloves in the colder months. There’s something satisfying about wrapping your hands around a chunky mug of steamy deliciousness and settling into a cosy armchair in your local café or pub.
If you’re not a fan of the mulled spices, there’s always hot chocolate waiting for you too! Add marshmallows or a heaping helping of whipped cream and fall in love with cocoa all over again.
#2: It's Party Time
With Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, New Year and even Valentine’s Day, there’s plenty to celebrate throughout Winter. They’re the perfect excuse to throw on your gladrags and strut your stuff! What better way to shake off any seasonal sadness than by getting together with your pals and celebrating together?
And, if gift-giving’s your thing, Secret Santa exchanges tend to happen at Christmas dos, so you can experience the shock, delight and excitement of unwrapping something totally unknown, all while watching someone else unwrap your perfectly selected gift.
#3: Walkling in a Winter Wonderland
There’s so many cool pop-ups and events taking place in Winter, and this year is no different. One classic, super popular idea is to go to Hyde Park for their famed Winter Wonderland. It’s free to enter and there’s loads going on, from an Ice Bar to a Circus MegaDome. Not only that, it’s great for the whole family, and a perfect excuse to wrap up in a cosy scarf and woolly hat combo too.
Not a fan of London? That’s totally cool. Why not check out your local Christmas market, or find a spot to try ice skating for the first time. Perfect Winter vibes, without the hustle and bustle of the city.

#4: Winter Aestetic
Do it for the ‘gram, the card cover or just because you can; I’m talking about snapping the perfect pics throughout the season of chills. With holiday lights twinkling on every house, the potential for perfect snowflakes falling on your tongue and the wind keeping a rosy tint to your cheeks, you’re guaranteed to get some really cute photos of yourself, your family and even your pets at this time of year.
Plus, selfies are free, so you can go and explore your local area even when you’re tightening the purse strings.
