The ultimate end-of-summer skincare routine

As we say goodbye to the sun-kissed glow that – let’s be honest – makes summer skin oh, so easy to maintain, here are five things to change as the seasons do the same. Transitioning into Autumn isn’t always the easiest thing for our skin, but we know how to do it right…

  1. Cleansers

If you’re a fan of foaming cleansers and/or makeup wipes, you might find that these are slightly too harsh as the temperature creeps down and your skin gets drier and more sensitive. Try either a milk, cream or balm and your skin will feel infinitely more nourished. You’ll notice the change immediately.

  1. Toners

Even though you might feel your skin getting a little dry and tight, keep up with the toners. No matter the season, acids are instrumental in prepping your skin for pretty much anything that follows them.

  1. Oils

If you don’t use one already, now’s the time. If you do, try adding a couple of drops to your moisturiser to amp up the hydration your skin is getting without feeling greasy.

  1. Timing

The one singular advantage to earlier, darker nights is that you can do the whole ‘bra off makeup off hair up’ routine earlier. Try doing it as soon as you get home from work/school/uni. The skin has done most of its repairing work by 11pm, so doing your skincare routine at 10pm isn’t giving your skin the best fighting chance. Try doing it as soon as you get in, for a week, and see if you notice a difference.

  1. Spritzes, et al.

In whatever form you choose to get your last step for hydration – spritz, essence, etc. – there isn’t a more important time of year to use them right now. This isn’t the time for a can of Evian. You’ll be dehydrated already, with the weather change, and this will just exacerbate that. Use a spritz or essence that contains minerals and oils that will be beneficial for your skin.
