Makeup That Can Withstand The Heat

The Heatwave is back and thankfully this means that we can finally embrace summer yet again. However, with that comes a lot of sweat and unfortunately some makeup just can’t withstand it. Whether that’s because your makeup gets too cakey, slides off, or separates, makeup just doesn’t fair well when it comes to the heat. However, there are some products that will make your life a lot easier when it comes to managing makeup in the summertime.

The best way to ensure your makeup stays in place on a hot day is to prime. However, instead of just using a primer, use an SPF-based product, whether that’s sun cream or a product like bareMinerals’ Complexion Rescue Defense SPF 30. With an SPF of 30, the product has a brilliant consistency – tacky enough to keep your makeup on, but not too mattifying and adds a simple glow. The NARS Smooth & Protect Primer SPF 50 is another great option for those who are looking for a higher SPF. This product protects our skin and leaves it ready for makeup application. Check out our latest posts on the Best Skincare Products for that Summer Glow and 9 Of The Best SPF Products for further skin-prep advice.

When it comes to wearing makeup in the heat, less is 100% more. Sweating and heat can cause makeup to cake and run so wearing a light product as your base will work wonders. The bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream is perfect for those sunny days. Not only does it have SPF 30 included in it, but it’s incredibly lightweight, so your skin doesn’t feel suffocated at all. It just adds that layer of colour correction to your skin without being too thick.

For the heat, waterproof mascaras work well but an even better option is one that is entirely water resistant. The Glossier Lash Slick Mascara stays in place without smudging or flaking when in contact with water.

If you’re someone who wears eyeliner daily, and looking for a waterproof eyeliner pen for those intense cat-eyes, the Urban Decay Perversion Waterproof Pen is completely waterproof meaning you can still look forward to having that strong eyeliner look throughout the day. For those who use a Kohl crayon eyeliner Soap & Glory Smoulder Kohl Waterproof Eye Liner & sharpener is a good option as it’s got great pigmentation to it as well as being fully waterproof.

Although liquid lipsticks may feel a bit 2015, they are the perfect alternative to a solid lipstick (which will melt if kept in your handbag on a hot day so beware!) and some of the best ones to withstand the heat include the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks which come in a great variety of colours. For a more budget friendly option, the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams are brilliant too – comfortable to wear, long lasting and a great price at only £6.

Something that’s always handy to keep in your bag for those extra hot days when you’ve got a full-face on is blotting paper. Usually designed to capture excessive oil, it works just as well when it comes to sweat to minimize and control the shine. The DHC Oil Blotting Papers and the Soap & Glory Blot Right Now Blotting Sheets are the best companion.
