We’re sharing with you five ways that you can update your beauty routine this year.
2020 Is finally over and I think I say this for everyone but I’m glad. A new year also means new beauty routines and practices. Today I’m going to be sharing with you five ways that you can update your beauty routine this year.
In the UK while I’m writing this we are currently in another lockdown and during lockdowns, I try to take the opportunity to look at my skin and see if I need to change up my routine to make sure that I get the most benefits from the products I’m using. This can also depend on the time of year like in the colder months we need winter skincare saviours for our skin to stay hydrated and moisturised and in the summer we need products to protect our skin from the sun. To update my skincare routine, I research my skin concerns and find products that I think my skin would benefit from. Not every product from your routine needs updating only the things that you think aren’t working for your skin anymore. Having the time to research ingredients and different skincare products will massively improve your skincare routine.
This one is something we should all do more often, but I know it’s something we don’t do enough. Making sure our makeup is in date is very important because it can affect your skin and cause more skincare concerns like sensitivity and blemishes. Old makeup can harbour bacteria and can be passed on to new makeup through your makeup brushes or tools so it’s so important to keep up to date with out-of-date makeup. A way you can do this is when you get a new makeup product use a sharpie to write the date on the item that you’ve opened and then you will know how long you’ve had the product for and when to throw it out!
When I first started using skincare, I only really had the basics (a cleanser, moisturiser and SPF) but since then I have also added a few other key products to my routine to help improve my skin and this is something you can do to update your skin routine this new year. If your skin concern is problematic, then a serum containing Niacinamide or Salicylic Acid would be your best bet or if you have dry skin a serum containing hyaluronic acid would be best, knowing the best ingredients for your skin is also a must at better skin health. Serums are great to add to your routine because serums are typically thinner in consistency making them easier to penetrate the skin so you get the benefits from your products quicker.
When it comes to having a skincare routine the most important thing is to be consistent with it. Having a great routine with amazing products is all well but if you don’t do it every morning and evening it won’t have much benefit for you. For products to really work and be able to penetrate the skin it takes time. It takes 4-6 weeks for products to start working on the skin and if you aren’t consistent with your skincare routine it may take longer for the products to have a positive effect. Making sure you have a routine that works for you and you do it morning and evening is the best thing you can concentrate.
Nothing feels better to me than having a big declutter and getting rid of bits I no longer use, making space for new products. Having a declutter is the best way at removing out of date makeup and getting rid of all the makeup that you either don’t use anymore or that you’ve outgrown. I recently did my declutter and found products that I’ve barely touched but didn’t want to use anymore so I gave a few bits that were still in date to family and friends meaning I didn’t make any extra waste. Another reason for a declutter could be to look through your makeup and find brands that aren’t cruelty free and replace them with brands that are cruelty free and vegan. Having a clear out is also a positive because it makes more space for new makeup to be added to your collection.
Starting a new year fresh is always a good thing especially after the year we’ve just had. Updating your beauty routine will also give a positive start to the year which I think we all need.
