Hair Hacked: Back to Basics

Washing your hair… It seems to be one of the simpler things in life: Hop in the shower, get your hair wet, create a bit of a lather, and rinse it off. Job done, right? 

We are stripping it all back and taking you back to basicssharing some of our top hair hacks to ensure you get the best hair wash of your life. Clean, healthy scalp and soft free-flowing hair, here we come! 

Brush Brush Brush! 

Using a cushioned brush, start brushing from the tips of the hair and slowly combing up higher before reaching the top of your head. The reason why you should brush your hair this way is that the angled hair can fall out after shampooing and if you brush your scalp in advance, you can help the sebum excretion which will lead to a deeper clean when you wash your hair. 

Head Focus

Okay when we say head, we mean scalp. When shampooing, it is crucial to focus on your scalp area mainly. This is where the excess sebum builds up which results in an itchy, dirty scalp (ew?) Wet your hair thoroughly and apply shampoo to create a rich lather. Pro tip, get yourself a scalp brush to really help give your hair a deep clean and remove any dead skin cells and build up!  

Treat it right 

Many of us apply our conditioner or treatment straight into our soaking wet hair as soon as we’ve rinsed out the shampooThis is actually very ineffective and doesn’t allow the product to penetrate as deep and do its job. Towel dry your hair and then apply conditioner for maximum results. Remember to focus treatments and conditioner towards the end of your hair, as this part of your hair cannot regenerate itself so it relies on nutritious treatments instead.

Put it to bed 

Between 10 at night and 2 in the morning is the time the cells regenerate, so it’s preferable to wash your hair before 10. You should stick to washing your hair once every 2 days or less! 

Personalise it 

It is crucial to figure out what your scalp type is so you can use the most appropriate shampoo with the correct ingredients for your scalp type. It’s never a bad idea to reconsider what you think you know, to refresh your memory and continue practicing your little self-care rituals in a way that will get you the most pampering out of your routine!
