Travel-Sized Beauty Favourites for Your Next Holiday
Times are tough right now. As well as the ongoing societal problem of systematic and systemic racism against black people across the world, the Coronavirus pandemic continues. With many of us still abiding by lockdown restrictions, travelling has been severely disrupted.  You may have had a holiday planned that’s been cancelled or postponed. You might have planned to take a quick trip away to escape the hustle and bustle of life. You probably planned a staycation to get away from your hometown for a short while. Regardless of your travel plans, it’s annoying to have to put things on hold.

Face SPF Products You Need to Try Right Now
It’s hot. There I said it. It really crept up on us. We were given rain and storms before a heatwave no one saw coming. I’m the first to burn too. I’ll step outside and within 10 minutes, I’m a rosy hue. This list is as much for me as it is you and I’m excited about it, let me tell you.

Summer Lovin’
You've binge-watched Normal People, developed a mild case of repetitive strain injury from swiping left on boys who are 'just looking for a quarantine buddy ;)' and Love Island 2020 (much like my own love life) is cancelled.   If you're a hopeless romantic like myself and need your fix of summer lovin' in the absence of skin-tight white jeans peacocking around a firepit (I mock, but I've never missed an episode), then pick up a love story.

The Benefits of Meditation On Your Mental Health
Life is still a little on the crazy side right now… I mean, if you’d have asked me back in January what I thought I’d achieve this year, you can bet your bottom dollar I wouldn’t have said building a loungewear collection and not leaving my house for months, other than to go food shopping and walk the dog. No socialising… no holidays… not going into work…  Life has literally been flipped upside down for a lot of people and now more than ever, it’s important to look after our mental health and wellbeing. Spending most of your time alone, or with the same few people in your household can also be hard, especially if you’re a natural social butterfly.

How To Get Naturally Fuller Lashes and Brows for Summer

If lockdown has taught us anything about our beauty regimes, it’s how nice it feels going to bed at night without having to remove any mascara, false lashes and eyebrow pencil! That’s especially for those who have had to follow a work from home lifestyle or have been furloughed at work.

But even those who have had to continue working every day, the fact that our trusty lash technicians and brow experts haven’t been able to get their hands on our lashes and brows means we’ve all had to do one thing: let mother nature take over.

Yep, that means letting those brows get bushier and lashes look more natural.

I panicked when I first thought about it but on week 2 of lockdown, I began to enjoy seeing brow hairs poking through, adding to the natural shape of my eyebrows and becoming a little more bushier and ‘raw’.

I can same the same for my lashes. Without coating them with mascara every day (which I’ll always love doing, don’t get me wrong) there was something quite refreshing about letting them grow themselves. I haven’t had any need to wear false lashes and of course, lash extensions have become a thing of the past for me right now. A more natural approach to brows and lashes is something worth taking for the Summer months, lockdown aside. Defined and shaped eyebrows highlight our faces and personality and naturally thicker, fuller-looking lashes draw attention to our eyes.

Of course, some of us have sparse and barely-there brows. I for one have short stumpy eyelashes, but I haven’t been helping the matter by relying on lash extensions and dragging makeup remover over them every night.

Here are several ways to boost your brows and lashes while salons are closed, or if you’re wanting to take a break from anything cosmetic this Summer…

1. Use Brow and Lash Serums

Everyone’s brows and lashes have their own potential to grow, but they sometimes just need a little boost. These days, there are some super-advanced formulas created in the form of serums. When applied onto our natural hairs at the root, these can increase the growth speed and encourage thicker, stronger, fuller hairs.

RapidLash is a brand that has raving reviews and under the brand, they retail both RapidLash and RapidBrow serum products. Each one uses innovative formulas consisting of vitamins, oils and amino acids which are specifically designed to condition, moisturise and fortify the hairs.

You just have to have a little patience – these growth-boosting serums don’t work overnight. Give it up to a month for you to start seeing results. If you apply every evening, you should start to see a dramatic difference with the appearance of your natural lashes and brows.

2. Coconut Oil for Brows

Coconut oil has become well known for working as a conditioner as well as a moisturiser and is much loved for its versatile uses. You can use it on your hair as a deep conditioner and many have great results from applying it directly onto dry skin.

The reason it works well for growing brow hairs is due to the fatty acids found in coconut oil, which work with the natural proteins found in hair that protect hairs from breaking. It is rich in lauric acid, which acts as an antimicrobial agent, reducing the risk of any hair follicles becoming infected.

This, along with the fact it is rich in Vitamin E and Iron, makes coconut oil great for smoothing onto brows to encourage thicker, stronger growth. It also works great to keep those straggly hairs in place too!

3. Apply Aloe Vera

Most people praise Aloe Vera for its ability to reduce sunburn, but not many people know it contains a compound named aloenin that promotes hair growth. This works in a similar way to Keratin, rejuvenating the hair follicle. When Aloe Vera is applied to hair regularly, the nutrients prevent breakage and improve elasticity, which makes it a great natural substance to be applying to brows daily.

If you apply directly from the plant, you’ll get Aloe Vera gel in its most potent form. Simply open up an Aloe Vera leaf, and scoop the gel out with your finger. Massage into your brow hairs until it is all absorbed.

4. Take a Biotin Supplement

Biotin isn’t for everyone as it can sometimes cause the skin to break out when taken in larger amounts, so ensure you do your research beforehand. However, it works well at targeting nutritional, mineral and vitamin deficiencies, which can lead to slow hair growth.

While you can’t rely on supplements to stimulate hair growth on their own (diet, genetics and lifestyle play a huge part too), a supplement can certainly speed things along when it comes to hair growth, especially if you are deficient in B vitamins, iron or Vitamin D. When we say hair growth, your lashes are classed in the same category as the hair on your head when it comes to speed of growth.

Read up on stories from people who have taken a Biotin supplement first, to fully understand why they take it. You’ll find Bitoin packed into hair, skin and nail supplements, so perhaps they could be the best route to take to give it a try.

5. Treat Them with Love!

Alongside the tips above, being mindful not to pull or tug at your brows and lashes when removing makeup or washing your face is always something that will help. Brushing both of them regularly to keep them free from dirt and grime will also allow them to grow freely without being tangled.

Embrace the break away from your lash and brow technician. Fuller, fluffier brows are on-trend right now, so there’s never been a better time to let them grow! Just remember to keep them brushed and groomed and I promise, your brow lady will be impressed with the natural growth when she sees you next.
