Spring Cleaning your Mind

As spring approaches, the mention of a “spring clean” will often pop up. The idea is to deep clean your house after the winter hibernation, to have a fresh, tidy start to the new season.  

However, I think it is important to take time to spring clean your mind too, not just the space you live in! The cold winter weather and the aftereffects of the ‘January blues’ can take its toll on your mind, especially whilst we’re all isolating and staying home amongst the current chaos. Here are some ideas on detoxing and clearing your mind ready for Spring, so you can make the most of your time and space 

SOCIAL MEDIA DETOX

Social media can be a very toxic space at the best of times, so having a break from constantly scrolling through posed and edited pictures of people you don’t even know, can relax your mind and help with the insecurities social media can heightenMuting accounts that bring negative energy can be really refreshing. It’s not as dramatic as an unfollow, but you don’t have to see the posts that can often bring your mood down, whether it is an ex or an influencer with a body the opposite to your own. Learn to love yourself for you. 

CLEAN OUT YOUR WINTER WARDROBE

This is easier said than done because the weather at the minute doesn’t scream “Springtime”, so you might need to hang on to a few knitwear pieces and tights. However, get rid of that frumpy jumper you’ve had for so many years that has bobbled all over and treat yourself to a cute spring dress. This will have a positive effect on your mind, as you physically prepare for a new season, a fresh start. Plus, everyone loves having a fresh wardrobe!

CREATE A REGULAR SKINCARE ROUTINE

The cold, harsh weather that winter burdens us with can have a seriously negative impact on our skin. It becomes so dry and chapped that it is uncomfortable. Therefore, going into Spring is the time to give your skin some TLC. Research into your skin type and find a cleanser, exfoliator, toner and moisturiser that work well for you and religiously use them every day. This will leave your skin feeling fresh and you’ll slowly develop a self-love routine.  

EAT HEALTHY AND EXERCISE

This is obviously so cliché and easier said than done, however hear me out. Eating healthy makes your insides feel so much cleaner and guaranteed, you will feel so much better for it. Exercise makes your body feel so much better too, producing positive endorphins. No one is saying this must be 5 days a week at the gym, it could be something as simple as going for a nice walk through your local park (when the sunshine decides to stick around!).

HAVE A DAY OFF!

Have a day off from work, do absolutely nothing. This will clear your mind of any stresswhich is super beneficial even if it is only just for the day. Alternatively, instead of doing nothing, facetime friends and spend time with the people around you to boost your mood and make you feel positive for the new season.
