Travel-Sized Beauty Favourites for Your Next Holiday
Times are tough right now. As well as the ongoing societal problem of systematic and systemic racism against black people across the world, the Coronavirus pandemic continues. With many of us still abiding by lockdown restrictions, travelling has been severely disrupted.  You may have had a holiday planned that’s been cancelled or postponed. You might have planned to take a quick trip away to escape the hustle and bustle of life. You probably planned a staycation to get away from your hometown for a short while. Regardless of your travel plans, it’s annoying to have to put things on hold.

Face SPF Products You Need to Try Right Now
It’s hot. There I said it. It really crept up on us. We were given rain and storms before a heatwave no one saw coming. I’m the first to burn too. I’ll step outside and within 10 minutes, I’m a rosy hue. This list is as much for me as it is you and I’m excited about it, let me tell you.

Summer Lovin’
You've binge-watched Normal People, developed a mild case of repetitive strain injury from swiping left on boys who are 'just looking for a quarantine buddy ;)' and Love Island 2020 (much like my own love life) is cancelled.   If you're a hopeless romantic like myself and need your fix of summer lovin' in the absence of skin-tight white jeans peacocking around a firepit (I mock, but I've never missed an episode), then pick up a love story.

The Benefits of Meditation On Your Mental Health
Life is still a little on the crazy side right now… I mean, if you’d have asked me back in January what I thought I’d achieve this year, you can bet your bottom dollar I wouldn’t have said building a loungewear collection and not leaving my house for months, other than to go food shopping and walk the dog. No socialising… no holidays… not going into work…  Life has literally been flipped upside down for a lot of people and now more than ever, it’s important to look after our mental health and wellbeing. Spending most of your time alone, or with the same few people in your household can also be hard, especially if you’re a natural social butterfly.

How to Achieve a Successful Work-Life Balance

How is your work-life balance? Would you say you have an equal division of your time spent between work and your personal life? Take your time to think about it and be mindful of this whilst you read this post.

As the saying goes, ‘don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life’

We as working women should be trying our ultimate best to improve our ‘work-life balance’ to nourish our physical and mental health. We’re all somewhat responsible for our own way of life and how we spend our time but the inevitable happens and we can easily get caught up with having too much of one and not enough of the other. We’re now living in a society where work is supposedly meant to be your core value, your entire life and nothing else is meant to matter… people even fear calling in sick, how crazy is that?

A poor work-life balance will usually cause burn out and stress, basic tasks might become more difficult to complete, you’ll feel tired and frustrated and be super irrational leading to poor work/lifestyle choices, that’s why it’s important to get a healthy balance of the two or at least be mindful and aware of what you need to be doing.

6 Simple Steps Towards a Healthy Work-Life Balance

Prioritise Your Time (in and out of work)

Always be sure to start the week/day with a clear understanding of what needs to get done in work and outside of work.

Work

Plan your week, what are the most important tasks that need to be completed and when do they need to be done by? I always think getting the more complex parts of my to-do list done first is the most effective and then the smaller ‘less priority’ tasks can be done after. Organise your calendar and make sure this reflects everything you need to do, you can even put in your ‘down time’ just so you know where your time is being spent.

Life

What do you need to get done this week? Use a diary or make a Monday-Sunday list.

Prioritise the things you need to do the most that will make your week a lot easier I.e. – get the washing done, clean the house, do the food shop and meal prep your lunches for the week ahead.

Learn to Say No & Respect Your Own Time

You don’t have to commit yourself to every plan your family and friends suggest, if it’s something you want to do then do it but don’t feel obliged to do everything that comes your way. Don’t be a people pleaser do things to please yourself (it makes it more enjoyable for yourself and those around you)

If you’re overwhelmed at work don’t be ashamed or afraid to ask for some support, don’t take on more than you’re possibly able to do. It’s all about balance but if getting into work an hour earlier or staying an hour later will help you get on top of things then do it.  Just make sure you treat yourself with more you time after!

Do Something Every day that Makes You Happy

Nothing more really needs to be said about this one because it’s each to their own and self-explanatory, we all have our own personal life pleasures. It doesn’t matter how big or small they are every time you think of something that makes you feel a little refreshed and happy write it down and refer to the list every time you’re due to have you time.

Read a book, go for a walk, catch up on your favourite programme, bake a cake, speak to friends/family…

Reflect on your work/life balance

For a few weeks keep a record of your day, what mood are you in?

What made you happy?

What could you have done to improve your day?

How has your day made you feel?

Are you stressed at work? Are you on auto pilot and over tired when you’re home?

This is a great way to reflect, learn & adapt.

Work Out & Eat Well

A poor diet and a not so active lifestyle have a damaging impact on our daily routines. Our mindsets at work can be tarnished with an unhealthy diet and we could feel lethargic during our spare time. Eat little and often with a nutritious plan and treat yourself to a guilty meal/snack when you feel like it & work out when you can, take walks, use the stairs and pick up a sporty hobby (gym/swimming/tennis etc)

Health = productivity

Scrap Any Guilt

We can’t always get the perfect 50/50 balance but we can try our best, don’t get overwhelmed and disheartened when you’ve had a bit more work to do and a little less lifestyle over the course of a few days or weeks… we aren’t always in control and that’s just life.

Embrace it at all costs, acceptance is an empowering trait to have as it keeps you balanced and present.

Final Thoughts

Find ways that work for you, don’t overdo either and abandon one over the other. Make sure you have something to look forward to (plans after work and on the weekends & even ‘that’ holiday, we don’t get annual leave for no reason!)

Don’t forget to asses and adapt your situation & accept the fact you won’t get a perfect 50/50 especially if you don’t work for it. Only you can decide what your ideal balance is, we’re all different and have a million other priorities to one another it is very personal and whatever you decide is fine.
