Winter, you either love it or hate it. For the lovers of winter the nostalgia is all too special; Cosy pyjamas, a warm mug of something sweet, a movie that you’ve seen a hundred times before and the sighting of the first few snowflakes… Happier things I relate back to these colder months. For the people who don’t love winter too much all they see is dreary skies, short days and cold ferocious winds.
There’s one thing we can all agree on though, the haters and the lovers; This weather is not cute for our skin… Like, at all.
The cold bitter air, constant heaters and radiation to keep us warm can do horrible damage to our gentle skin, These darker days usually bring on dullness and dryness, the skin is constantly parched and almost dead looking but a few simple steps in your morning and evening routine can banish that for good…. Which means, back to enjoying the *cuter* wintery things!
Here’s how you can step up your skincare game this Winter:
Step 1: Incorporate a Toner
A nourishing hydrsting toner can really help after you’ve cleansed your skin. The toner will bring life back into parched skin and help it feel alot softer. If your skin feels dry and tight after cleansing this will be especially good for you. It’s also helps your following skincare steps absorb alot better into your skin which means you’re getting way more benefits than usual.
Step 2: Serum Up
Serum is THE MOST important part of your skincare. In fact, any improvements you try to make to your skin will mainly take place within the serum. Are you after brighter skin? Brightening serum! How about more moisture? A hydration serum should do the trick… Or perhaps you have acne that you are trying to tackle??? Settle for a spot treatment serum!
Whatever problems your skin is facing this winter make sure your serum helps you out with that!
Step 3: Give Me Moisturise!
Restore moisture back into your skin with the easiest step, you might need to switch up to a heavier duty moisturiser if you suffer from dry skin! Remember moisturiser always goes after serum and toner- this is due to the fact that moisturisers tend to have a larger molecular grain which means it absorbs alot slower than your serum or toner which sinks right in.
Moisture tip: If you’re using an oil in your routine remember to push that to the end of your routine, to really lock in the moisture. Press it into the skin and revel in your amazing glow.
- Sheet Mask 2-3 times a week, this will restore help repair and treat the skin, it’s an amazing time to wind down too!
- Exfoliate dead skin: To remove dead skin cells so your skincare isn’t sitting on old skin- when you remove and buff away those dead skin cells it will help your skincare penetrate deeper into the skin.
- Hydrating facial sprays: Perfect to carry around when you’re on the go, reapplying moisturiser has got to be one of my worst fears when I’m on the go with my germ filled hands, a hydrating facial spray always does the job for a quick fix with no hand contact.
