Staying Sane in Isolation
It’s now been – ahem – a while since Boris announced the country-wide lockdown, with the entire of the U.K.’s non-essential workforce suddenly working from home full time.   After the initial giddiness at the prospect of an extra half an hour in bed, not having to battle the rush hour Northern Line twice a day, and a new work wardrobe comprising mainly loungewear and sliders, the reality of the situation settled in.

Fashion Week and It’s Lockdown…
While we all thought we’d soon be planning our Summer wardrobe and adding those holiday buys to our basket, I think we can all agree that life doesn’t half surprise you. If you’d have told me at the beginning of the year that I would be spending the first bank holiday of the decade in PJ’s, cradling a bottle of wine in front of Disney+, I never would have believed you... yet here we are.

Forever Young in London

I recently visited newly opened beauty salon Young LDN in London’s chic and stylish Westbourne Grove.

I was greeted warmly at the desk by Roxanne who was to be my beauty therapist for the day and was offered refreshments & brought herbal tea, mineral water and  delicious chocolates (which were a nice treat!)

The salon has a cool, modern look with an array of skincare and beauty products all arranged in an eye-catching way on the industrial style shelves by the reception area. There was a vibrant, buzzy atmosphere and I loved how the pedicure and manicure stations were brightly coloured with fun, eclectic prints on the chairs and teal velvet stools. Opposite the pedicure station was a makeup area complete with high stools with Young Ldn’s logo on the back and vanity mirrors (with exposed lightbulbs) with a big red-lipsticked kiss on them, a huge faux lipstick on each table and funky coloured makeup brushes. This made for a very fun and girly place to have one’s makeup done for a night out or special occasion.

Treatments:

Roxanne led me to the beauty rooms downstairs for my leg wax, which was to be my first treatment. Walking down the stairs I could see a bright yellow wall at the bottom with a massive black and white letters saying “Welcome To the Lab”.

The treatment room was white in colour and immaculate with a navy velvet accent chair to put my bag on, gaving a nice pop of colour to the otherwise minimalistic room. Roxanne was extremely professional but warm and applied the wax using a handheld roller device rather than hot gloopy wax on a wooden stick which much quicker, more effective and took half the time. It was the first time that I’d had wax applied in this way and I wish all salons offered this method of waxing.

Next was to be my Express LED Yellow Light Facial, which took place upstairs at The Express Facial/Brow/Lash section. There were 3 comfy pastel Blue leather swivel chairs and trays of products laden on the station behind. The facial lasted 30 minutes and is to boost collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, whilst hydrating, plumping and balancing skin tone.

After the facial, my skin looked super bright, glowy and plumped up – I would definitely have this again straight before a special occasion/evening out.

I ended my treatments with a wonderful shellac pedicure in the funky coloured armchairs. Roxanne was diligent in making sure my feet were super smooth (as I’d requested) and removed any dead skin with a fine blade and an exfoliating foot scrub. My toenails were neatly painted in a nude shade with smooth cuticles and my feet looked perfectly vacation and Haviana ready.

After the superb service and enjoyable experience, I will definitely be returning to Young Ldn (which just so happens to be a short 10 minutes from where I live) for all my beauty needs. Don’t you just love it when that happens!
