The Five Celebrity Beauty Products That Live Up To The Hype

Celebrity beauty lines have become more prevalent than ever in the past few years. With the likes of Kylie Jenner and her now billion-dollar beauty empire, Rihanna expanding her Fenty line significantly and Kim Kardashian following in her sister’s footsteps with KKW Beauty, it seems like only a matter of time before more celebs jump on the bandwagon.

I’ll admit it… I am easily influenced! Sometimes, in the past, I may have been known to buy products just because of the celebrity that created them. I guess that’s the goal… for them anyway! But as time’s gone on, I’ve become more educated and knowledgeable about the best (and worst) products in the beauty industry. I’ve become a lot more choosey about the products I use and aware of the brands that make them.

So, I decided to pick my top 5 celebrity products I’ve used in the past few years that I believe really do live up to the hype.

  1. Fenty PRO FIL’R Hydrating Foundation

When the Fenty line first launched I was one of the first in the very long line at Harvey Nichols. Back then that was the only place in the UK you could get them, now, of course, the line is available at Boots. I picked out some of the main products on offer including the primer, the foundation, the matchsticks and highlighter. I loved everything – except the foundation! It was a matte formula that just didn’t work for my dry skin. As much as I wanted to love it and everyone seemed to rave about it, I just didn’t. However, this year, Fenty released a hydrating formula foundation – recognising the matte one just wasn’t working for us dry skin girls (and guys).

This time I was a lot more cautious. I actually had fairly low expectations for the foundation – having not had the best experience the last time. My favourites in the past have been Estee Lauder Double Wear for that full-coverage look and the Dior Backstage for a lighter, more dewy finish.

So, did the hydrating foundation live up to the hype? As you can probably guess from the headline, the answer is absolutely yes… and beyond! This has quickly become my favourite foundation, maybe ever. It’s everything I wanted the first time round. You get the coverage but without the drying matte formula. It gives a dewy look which you can still matte down with powder if so inclined. You don’t feel like you’re wearing anything and you still look like you’re in your own skin. 10/10.

  1. Kylie Cosmetics Concealer

I’ve always struggled with concealers. I don’t actually suffer from dark circles, which I guess makes me lucky, but I still like to brighten up my under-eye area. So when Kylie released her first concealer, I was intrigued. I had heard good things, with it being compared to the Tarte Shape Tape which had always been a favourite amongst beauty bloggers, so I thought I’d give it a try.

What’s a little difficult with Kylie Cosmetics, if you’re buying from the UK, is you can only get it online – and there are that hefty customs and shipping charge. Plus, there’s obviously the issue with no ‘try before you buy’, so picking my shade was a little hit and miss. Lucky for me the easy colour chart made it a hit and I picked the tone slightly lighter than my own. I was totally blown away by the concealer. It didn’t crease, it lasted all day and it didn’t seem to dry out my skin. I even used it as foundation some of the time too – just wish it would come in a bigger bottle. It’s one of the few products I have re-purchased from Kylie – and with that customs charge, you need to really love it! I would absolutely recommend this formula. 10/10.

  1. KKW Powder Contour

Kim Kardashian was quick to get on the beauty train. After her previous foray into beauty didn’t exactly go to plan, using Instagram and help from her make-up artist Mario, the marketing around this slick, simple KKW Beauty line was far more ‘new Kim’ and less old-style ‘sparkly Kim’.

From what I remember, it came out around November and so I decided to order myself the contour powder kit for Christmas – if anyone knew anything about contour, it was Kim Kardashian right?

The four-pan palette kit came with a dark contour shade, a bronzer shade and 2 highlighters. I’ll be honest, the bronze was a little orange for me, but the darker contour was one of the best shades I’ve ever used. I’m quite pale and I find it difficult to carve out my face the Kim K way. Now, fast forward to 2019 and she has released the contour powders in their own singles and that’s what I will be buying next. If you want to contour, I would really recommend the KKW options! 10/10.

  1. Kora Organics Balancing Rose Mist

When I walked into Space NK wanting some products to, let’s be real, look good on my Instagram, I was presented with a very helpful sales assistant. After explaining my dry, sensitive skin was a bit difficult to keep hydrated, she told me about the Kora Organics range by Miranda Kerr. I hadn’t heard a lot about this line but now the popular organic skincare brand is going from strength to strength.

I’m not going to lie and say part of the reason for buying the balancing rose mist wasn’t because it was pink. But, as it turns out, it has become a staple in my routine. I use it as a toner and I love how the super fine mist feels so good on my skin. I would definitely like to try more from the range but right now this is my number one recommendation from Kora Organics. 10/10.

  1. Kylie Lip Kits – Velvet formula

Finally, I couldn’t talk about celebrity beauty products without talking about the Kylie Lip Kits. Again, when these first came out I just wanted to try it because everyone else was. I purchased my first lip kit from the original collection and, whilst I wanted to love it, I found the matte formula totally drying and couldn’t really get on with it.

Fast forward to 2019 and she has upped her game (to billionaire status) and with it really upped her formulas. Shortly after coming out with the mattes, she delivered the new velvet formula which I absolutely love. My favourite colour is Goals. Like her mattes, the colour just does not come off. I only like to do one swipe, as it can get a little drying with layers. I put this on at the beginning of a night out, have drinks, dance, eat dinner and still that first swipe is still there. Amazing. 10/10.

And that’s it, my top 5 celebrity beauty products. You can hear more about the products I love over on my Instagram @beauty_glow_girl or at www.beautyglowgirl.com
