Staying Sane in Isolation
It’s now been – ahem – a while since Boris announced the country-wide lockdown, with the entire of the U.K.’s non-essential workforce suddenly working from home full time.   After the initial giddiness at the prospect of an extra half an hour in bed, not having to battle the rush hour Northern Line twice a day, and a new work wardrobe comprising mainly loungewear and sliders, the reality of the situation settled in.

Fashion Week and It’s Lockdown…
While we all thought we’d soon be planning our Summer wardrobe and adding those holiday buys to our basket, I think we can all agree that life doesn’t half surprise you. If you’d have told me at the beginning of the year that I would be spending the first bank holiday of the decade in PJ’s, cradling a bottle of wine in front of Disney+, I never would have believed you... yet here we are.

Finding your Balance

It’s a confusing world.

We have too much choice. We’re bombarded with mind-boggling marketing about the very latest, best-ever, innovative new discovery that’s going to make us an all-round better person. Coconut water, the keto diet, HIIT yoga, breathing classes, sound therapy, Notox… the list goes on, and it’s exhausting. Meanwhile we have a career to think about, a future to plan and on an overwhelmingly larger scale, the planet to worry about. We’re then supposed to find time to meditate, and walk to work, so that we don’t get too stressed and sleep better.

I spent my twenties climbing the career ladder in agency-PR and fully embracing the enviable social life that came with it; it was hard work and a lot of fun. As my job reached new heights through my thirties, I decided I was a grown-up and felt ready to nest. Juggling family life in the leafy suburbs with a London-based career didn’t work for me, and setting up my own business as a freelance writer felt a scary, yet liberating option. Finding a family/work/life balance continuously challenged my physical and mental being, and just as I thought I’d cracked it, I had a major health scare. Now, in my early (ok creeping towards mid…) forties, I think I’m finally starting to find that balance. It’s taken me a while, and I hope you get there sooner.

So I’m now fully sucked into this wellbeing movement, and not only through learning the hard way that self-care is far from selfish; it’s actually essential. I’ve tried and tested many food, nutrition and fitness trends, beauty products, body treatments and alternative therapies. I’ve gathered years of knowledge and understanding by working with industry experts who know what they’re talking about.

I now strongly believe in taking a balanced approach to life that’s right for me. There is no quick fix and there isn’t one way that will work for all of us. It’s about discovering the best things in life for you and having the confidence and individuality to stick with them. Always be up for trying something new, you never know where it will take you.

Over the coming months, I won’t be telling you about the ‘next big thing’. Instead, I will share my insights on how to find that balance we’re all searching for. We’re all different but ultimately, we’re on the same journey to find a happy and fulfilled life. We just need a little help getting there.
